Application for a visa for France in Mozambique

The visa files / documentation submitted or presented in Mozambique are instructed / processed by the visa service of the French Embassy in Mozambique, the only entity qualified to take the decisions / to decide on visa matters.

Mozambican, Swazi and foreign citizens residing in Mozambique are subject to visa requirements for entry into France, regardless of the duration of their stay and of the type of travel document (passport type) except in case of holding a valid French or other Schengen country resident card.

Who to contact?

The reception of visa applicants residing in Mozambique and Eswatini, as well as the reception of files are ensured, by appointment, by the consular section of the French Embassy in Maputo.

Reservation request and details

Once you are sure you have the details of the process in time, you can request an appointment at the visa office of the French Embassy in Mozambique. The appointment request is now managed by the Embassy. This new procedure is carried out online, by telephone, or on the premises of the Embassy at no cost to the applicant and without any other intervention.

The appointment you are asked to request before starting the process will facilitate its receipt by the service to which you wish to go. This procedure significantly reduces the waiting time and allows for better preparation of the documents.

When you have already registered for this service you will have to keep the date and time of the appointment. If you have any inconvenience and would like to cancel your appointment at the service you would like to attend, please let us know and we will cancel the appointment.

Appointment deadlines

The visa office endeavors to process your application within 2 days but additional checks, an increasing number of applications or technical problems may extend the deadlines.

We recommend that you make your appointment well in advance of your planned travel date to avoid problems. The submission of requests is 2 weeks before the trip date.

Also, there is a higher flow of requests when the summer and winter school vacations are approaching. Obtaining an appointment may take longer than the normal timeframe, while during all other periods it is limited to a few days. Consequently, applicants are required to submit applications early enough to avoid travel postponement.

Practical information

Preparing for your arrival

The following items must be gathered before you go to the visa office :

  • Your valid passport. The expiration date must be at least 3 months before the expiration date of the visa applied for;
  • The visa application form, printed, dated and signed, with a recent photograph in compliance with ISO/IEC standards;
  • The list of documents to be submitted;
  • The documents to be submitted, grouped in order and marked on the list;

The above documents must be submitted in two copies: one file consisting of original documents and the other of A4 photocopies.

  • The amount in cash (metical) visa cost.

We remind you that only agents of the visa office are authorized to require the additional documents and no intermediary is authorized in visa matters.

Beware of document fraud

Several visa applicants have recently fallen victim to fraud by fraudsters posing as employees of the Embassy.

Visa applicants for France are required to conform to the entry requirements listed on this site by presenting only the documents and supporting documents requested by the French Embassy's visa service.

No other supporting documents may be required outside the visa service counter.

Several visa applicants have recently fallen victim to fraud by fraudsters posing as agents of the French Embassy and demanding fees for the purchase of a medical insurance certificate. Only the French Immigration and Integration Service is authorized to issue medical visits for beneficiaries of a family reunification procedure, spouses of French nationals and employees who are due to be paid in France.

Biometric data collection

All Schengen visas issued by France are biometric visas.

All visa applicants over the age of 12 are subject/obliged to be present in person when submitting their first visa application. The following identifiers are collected at the same time : a photo will be scanned/scanned at the time of the visa application, and 10 fingerprints taken by holding up the fingers and scanned by the machine.

However it is possible to retrieve the biometric data if a Schengen visa has been issued for less than 59 months.

Children under the age of 12 are exempt from biometrics, the file must be submitted by a parent or a person who has parental authority, but the presence at the time of submission is mandatory. The photo of the child must conform to the ISO/IEC standard will be scanned.

 Picking up your passport

You or your duly mandated third party should pick up your passport from Monday to Friday between 2:30 pm and 4:00 pm.

Particular situations

Particular situations

The officials passports holders (diplomatic or Services) have been received scheduling an appointment from Monday to Thursday 08h30 to 11h30am.

The passport’s collection is done from 14h30 to 30 Monday to Thursday and Friday from 8h30 to 11h30.

The issuance of diplomatic, Service and official passports holders is within the scope of they work missions and is free of charge.

Schengen

In Mozambique and Swaziland, the Sweden is represented by France for the Schengen visa.

Africans

In Mozambique and Swaziland, the Ivory-Coast, Burkina Faso, Central african Republic, Gabon, Mauritania, Togo and Djibouti are represented by France for the visas.

Fees

A visa application file can only be examined after the fees have been paid. They are charged only in cash, in meticais and at the current chancery rate.

Payment by check or card is not accepted. This is not the cost of the visa, but the cost of examining your application. A receipt for the amount paid will be given to the visa applicant.
No refunds, even partial, are made in case of visa refusal.
