Submit your application at a visa centre for France, in Suriname
The embassy of France in Suriname only issues visas for its overseas territories* and long term visas (more than 3 months) for France (mainland).
Short stay Schengen visas for France (less than 3 months) are issued by the Embassy of the Netherlands in Suriname, via the VFS Global officein Paramaribo.
Information: Guyana nationals can submit their Schengen and to the Overseas territories applications directly in Georgetown.
* France (mainland in Europe) and Overseas territories: Insofar as the French Overseas Departments (Guadeloupe, Martinique, Guyana, Reunion, Mayotte) as well as the French Overseas Communities (French Polynesia, Saint-Pierre -et-Miquelon, Saint-Barthélemy, Saint-Martin, Wallis and Futuna, New Caledonia) are not part of the Schengen area, the French Embassy is the only competent authority to issue long stay visas but also short stay for these destinations.
Whom should I contact?
The reception of visa applicants residing in Suriname and Guyana and the reception of the files are assured, by appointment, at the consular section of the French Embassy in Paramaribo.
Schengen short stay visa for France (mainland) for ordinary passports are issued by the Embassy of the Netherlands in Suriname.
The consular section of the French Embassy in Suriname is competent to host :
- Short-stay visa applicants to the overseas territories;
- Long-stay visa applicants (more than three months) for France mainland and the French overseas territories;
- Visa applicants on official passports (all types of visas).
What are the application fees?
The fees required for filing a visa application are composed of Fees receivable by the French administration (pdf) to process your visa application.
The applicable fees are paid in cash only, in Euros (€).
This fee collected by the administration is non-reimbursable, even if your visa application is rejected. A receipt corresponding to the paid application fee is given to the visa applicant.
Book an appointment
The visa office tries to process applications within 7 working days, but additional verifications or technical problems can lengthen these delays.
We recommend making an appointment well in advance of your planned departure date to avoid disappointment.
The filing of an application is possible from 6 months before the date of departure.
Personal appearance: visa applicants must submit their visa application in person to the French Embassy.
Remember to bring the following:
- The appointment conformation letter (printed out);
- The passport : the passport number must be identical to the passport number indicated on the appointment confirmation letter;
- The file containing all the required documents presented in the same order as on the list of required documents;
- Payment in € to cover the cost of the visa.
NB: If your file is not complete (missing documents), you can either decide not to file your application and make another appointment (no service fee will be requested), or to file it anyway. In this case, you will be asked to sign a document indicating the missing documents.
Filing a complete application does not necessarily mean that the Consular Authority will issue you the requested visa.

Additional information
Security information
When you visit a French Consulate, you must not bring any weapons or dangerous items with you. Security checks will be performed before you are admitted to the premises.
Biometrics
All visas issued by France are biometric visas.
Your photograph in the ISO/IEC format (pdf) will be scanned and your fingerprints will be taken.
Children under the age of 12 years are not subject to fingerprint collection. Their file including form, photo, individual passport, visa fees, and required documents for each child must be brought to the visa department by the father or the mother of the child, or the person having parental authority.

Collecting your passport
The withdrawal of your passport can only be done by yourself or by a duly authorized third party, from Monday to Friday from 13:00 to 14:00.
Closed on Saturdays and Sundays.

Official passports
Holders of diplomatic or service passports are received by appointment made with the visa office after receiving the “note verbale” on the visa application. Visas issued to official passport holders in the course of their duties are free of charge.
The visa application for holders of diplomatic or service passports must be made at least 48 hours before the desired departure date.
Short stay Schengen visas for France
The VFS Global office in Paramaribo processes the short stay Schengen visa applications for all states of the Schengen area.
The French Embassy in Paramaribo will keep issuing long stay visas for France and all kinds of visas for holders of an official passport (diplomatic and service passport).
Visa for groups (cultural, sports, officials)
Visa applications to French Guyana, Guadeloupe, Martinique and Saint-Martin are received by appointment on Wednesdays only.
