Apply for a visa in Thailand to visit France

Visa applications in Thailand are processed by the French Embassy in Bangkok, which has sole authority to make visa decisions.

The visa application form can be completed online. For the best possible guidance, we invite you to follow the "Visa application steps" and to read the tutorials provided in English and French in this same section.

With the exceptions mentioned below, TLScontact welcomes visa applicants in Bangkok or at the location of your choice via their "Mission Apply Anywhere" service;

You can submit your visa application at the embassy, by appointment only if:

As a general rule, applications must be submitted no earlier than six months and no later than fifteen calendar days before the planned trip. As visa applications can take up to 15 days to process, it is essential to respect the minimum time required to guarantee your departure on time.

Users are therefore asked to anticipate their applications as far as possible, so as to obtain their appointment at the earliest six months and at the latest fifteen days before the date of departure for a short-stay visa, and one month before for a long-stay visa. These deadlines can become considerably longer in high season.

High season in Thailand is from the end of February to the end of July, and from November to December.

Warning: The required supporting documents, listed on the France-Visas website via the visa wizard, must be written in French or English or accompanied by a French or English translation.

The service provider's roles

The service provider :

  • is an intermediary in charge of collecting and transferring applications to the visa department of the French Embassy in Bangkok;
  • has no decision-making power over the outcome of your application, whatever services you choose;
  • must take the documents presented;
  • must, if necessary, inform you that your file is incomplete. An incomplete application may result in a refusal.

Making an appointment

When you have the necessary time and all the documents required for your application, you can make an appointment:

Once you're sure you'll have all the information you need in good time, you can book an appointment on the TLScontact website.

Appointments are compulsory. The appointment system is the only way to guarantee the quality of our service:

  • It enables us to meet everyone at a specific time, thus limiting waiting times;
  • Applicants receive a personalized welcome based on the information they have provided by telephone or on the website.

Step 1 ~ Register on TLS Contact
In order to begin your visa application procedure, please first register on the TLScontact Thailand website. All you need is an email address and a few seconds to create a TLScontact account.

Step 2 ~ Prepare all required documents according to your customized list
After registration and completion of our questionnaire, you will receive a personalized set of required documents. Organize your documents in the manner indicated on your list.

Step 3 ~ Make an appointment online and print your notification

Select a convenient time for you to come to the TLScontact center to submit your organized documents. Don’t forget to print out your notification. It states all necessary visa-related information for your circumstances. You will also need to show your notification in our centre.

Appointment waiting times

The French Embassy in Bangkok ensures that these delays do not exceed 15 working days, except during peak periods (from February to April inclusive) when it can take up to several weeks to obtain an appointment.

Address, opening times and days
Tracking your application

You can check the status of your application at any time by logging on to the TLScontact website (using your e-mail address and password).

Once your passport has been returned to the TLScontact center by the consular authority, you will be notified by e-mail and SMS. You will then be able to collect your passport, without an appointment, at the center during opening hours.

Collecting your passport

There are three ways to collect your passport:

Visit TLScontact in person:

The visa applicant goes to TLScontact's outside counter with his or her summary form (given by TLScontact during the first appointment) and identity card. The procedure is fast, with no queuing.

Send someone in your place:

Visa applicants can send someone to pick up their passport for them, with :

  • The follow-up form given to you when you submitted your application;
  • The original identity card of the representative (the representative must be over 18);
  • Official authorization letter (downloadable template) provided by the French Embassy (fully completed, signed and being the one submitted and the one verified by TLScontact).

IMPORTANT: All above documents are mandatory. In case of change of representative, please contact the TLScontact.

By post:

Your passport can be returned to you by post.

Safety instructions

For security reasons, visa applicants are not allowed to bring with them any object that could cause a risk such as:

  • Sharp objects ;
  • Weapons or objects that could be assimilated to a weapon.

The use of cell phones (without express authorization), cameras or other video recording devices is strictly forbidden.

Bags may be inspected at the entrance to the TLScontact center. Anyone in possession of dangerous objects will not be allowed to enter the center.

Only visa applicants, French spouses (married or civil union), representatives and authorized companions (e.g. providing assistance to a person with reduced mobility or acting as an interpreter) will be allowed access to the center after passing a security check.

Particular situations

Diplomatic or official passports

Nationals of the Kingdom of Thailand holding a diplomatic or official passport issued on or after July 1, 2020 (traveling on official business or in a private capacity) are exempt from the short-stay visa requirement (maximum 90 days per 180-day period) for entry, transit and stay in French overseas territories and the Schengen area.

Visas on diplomatic or official passports are issued free of charge.

Spouses of French nationals

The notion of "spouse" applies in the event of marriage in France or abroad, provided that the marriage has been recorded in the French civil registry.

A "recent" full copy of your marriage certificate will be required to support your visa application. For information purposes, the French authorities define "recent" as "less than 6 months old".

To request a full copy or extract of your marriage certificate, go to Service-public.fr: https: //www.service-public.fr/particuliers/vosdroits/F1432

Long-stay study visas:  the "Etudes en France" procedure

The "Etudes en France" procedure is compulsory for Thai students and non-European foreign students residing in Thailand, wishing to study in France for more than 3 months.

Applications are processed by Espace Campus France Thaïlande.

Please note: you must have completed the "Study in France" procedure before your appointment with TLScontact to apply for a visa.
