His/Her country of nationality belongs to the European Union (other than France), to the European Economic Area (EEA), or is Switzerland.

You are:

  • The spouse;
  • The direct descendant or dependant under the age of 21;
  • The direct dependant older relative;
  • The direct dependant older relative or descendant of the spouse.

If the family member is a student, only the spouse and the direct descendant are concerned.

  • Your visa

Check with the visa wizard if you need a short-stay visa.

If you need one, you will be issued a short-stay visa which will allow you, as soon as you arrive in France, to apply for a residence permit from the prefecture of your place of residence and settle in France.

If you do not need a short-stay visa, you can enter and stay in France for three months and during this period, request a residence permit in the prefecture of your place of residence in order to settle there.

If you want to stay for more than three months or settle in the French overseas Departments and Territories (Guadeloupe, French Guiana, Reunion, Martinique, Mayotte) or the Territorial Communities (New Caledonia, French Polynesia, Saint-Barthélemy, Saint-Martin, St. Pierre and Miquelon, Wallis and Futuna), please contact the Embassy or the Consulate.
