Spouse of French national

Your family situation

You are the spouse of a French national.

The length of your stay must not exceed 90 days.

You will receive a short-stay visa.

Your stay will be longer than 90 days or you wish to settle in France

You must prove your marital status, the French nationality of your spouse, the community of life with your French spouse and your intention to maintain it in France.

You will receive a long-stay visa equivalent to a residence permit subject to approval formalities after your arrival in France.

Child of French national

Your family situation

You are:

  • His/Her foreign child under 21 years old
  • Dependent on your French parent (if you are studying, looking for a job or disabled)
  • A child whose relationship with a French national is legally established
  • A child adopted in the simple or full form by a French national

Your stay will be longer than 90 days or you wish to settle in France

  • Supporting documentation

You must prove your relationship, the nationality of both parents, your age, the residency of your French parent in France or your intention to reside there:

  • If you are a minor and you are subject to joint parental authority, the consent of the other parent to you settling in France
  • If you are over 21 years old, if you are dependent on your French parent

You will receive a long-stay visa valid for 3 months, it will be followed by the issuance of a residence permit which will have to be requested from the prefecture of the department of your place of residence.

Dependent older relative of French national or of his/her foreign spouse

Your family situation

You are :

  • His/Her older relative or the older relative of his/her spouse
  • Either the parent or grandparent of a French national or his/her spouse

The length of your stay will not exceed 90 days

  • You must prove :
    • The relationship with your descendant, his/her French nationality or that of his/her spouse
    • Sufficient means to meet your needs
    • Accommodation
    • International medical insurance covering the duration of your stay

You will receive a short-stay visa.

Your stay will be longer than 90 days

If your own income is sufficient to meet your needs, check the conditions by referring to the tourist and private stay section.

 

You want to settle in France

Your resources are not sufficient to cover your needs alone.

  • You must prove:
    • The relationship with your descendant, his/her French nationality or that of his/her spouse
    • That you are dependent on your descendant, or his/her spouse, in your country of residence
    • Conditions of accommodation during your stay in France
    • Medical insurance covering the first 3 months of your stay

You will receive a long-stay visa valid for 3 months, it will be followed by the issuance of a "dependent older relative" residence permit which will have to be requested from the prefecture of the department of your place of residence.

Foreign parent of minor French national

Your family situation

You are the parent of a minor French national and you contribute to the maintenance and upbringing of your child (under the conditions provided for in article 371-2 of the Civil Code (in French only)) since the birth of the child or for at least two years.

You want to settle in France

  • You must prove:
    • Your child's relationship to you, his/her French nationality, his/her age and his/her residency in France;
    • Your actual contribution to his/her upkeep and education;
    • That you do not live in a state of polygamy.
